There’s not much in this life that matches the joy of driving and owning a pristine, perfectly formed classic car, or the love between that car and its owner. As specialists in car shipping, we routinely wrap up precious cargo and whisk it away, with the gentleman’s agreement; ‘Don’t worry, we’ll take good care of her’. There’s just something about vintage cars. We get it.
If you’ve had your eye on a beautiful set of wheels from a bygone era, now is a brilliant time to buy. It’s a common misconception that retro motors are much more expensive than new models, when in fact the majority actually cost less. And with classic car values on the up, if you’re planning to buy one then it’s high time you head out to kick a few tyres. If you’re on the fence, let our words sway you; here are our 3 best reasons to finally buy that classic car.
Enjoy appreciation, not depreciation
Let’s face it – the majority of cars aren’t famed for their investment benefits. Even a fairly humdrum model can expect to lose on average 45-50% of its value in the first year of ownership alone… Ouch. Classic cars tend to hold on to value much better than modern vehicles, and as long as they’re well-maintained, will often increase in value. With a little (ok, a fair amount) of TLCCC (that’s Tender Loving Classic Car Care) your vintage motor could actually be a very nifty little money-maker.
It’s the only time you get MOT-and-tax-free motoring
If you’re a fan of 1950s motoring, you can say goodbye to tax and MOT costs. If you buy a car built before 1973, it’s classified as ‘historic’ and you’ll qualify for zero-rated road tax but if you wind the clock back even further and opt for a car built before 1960, you can forget about both tax AND an MOT. You’ll even save money on your motor insurance – as drivers of older cars are considered by insurance companies as ‘more careful’ and therefore cost a lot less to cover!
Welcome to the owner’s club folks!
One of the beautiful things about the world of motoring (and the car shipping business) is the passion shared by everyone that gets involved. Owning and being around classic cars is about so much more than getting from A to B; you’ll meet keen, interesting enthusiasts that will wax lyrical with you, about everything from the brilliance of the Bug to tinkering with a spanner on a Saturday. There are hundreds of classic car shows, at which you’ll find a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s a sociable, satisfying hobby – and you’ll soon find that the car itself is a cracking conversation starter.
